Lennox speech
I think that’s how you spell his name. Anyway, I listened to him talk for 2 hours last night about Genesis 1 interpretations. If anything, all that thinking only strengthened my atheism. He said over and over again, and I quote, “You can interpret it [some portion of controversial scripture] that way, but you don’t have to.”
He pointed out clear areas in scripture which...

How did Saul die?
4 Then Saul said to the one who carried his battle-clothes, “Take your sword and cut through me with it. Or these men who have not gone through our religious act will come and kill me with the sword and make fun of me.” But the one who carried his battle-clothes would not…

Sorry atheist and other non-theist men, apparently...
I love my family. I don't get along with them most of the time, and there are thousands of miles that separate me from the closest one, but good or bad they're still mine. For Christmas, apart from the cards, only one person posted a religious based message on my facebook page, for them this is much progress. So forgetting who I was dealing with I just had this Skype message conversation with a cousin.
Her: Your resolution for the New Year needs to be finding someone new to date. You need to move on from [ex's name deleted]. He wasn't any god for you anyway. He led you away from God.
Me: No. God led me away from God. Plus we were both Christians and we both attended church together for most of our relationship. Oh and we "lived in sin" the whole time without God striking us down. His religion or lack of religion had nothing to do with us breaking up.
Her: So you're saying that you're willing to date a Christian then? If you are that's awesome.
Me: No! I'm unwilling to date a Christian or any other theist. It would make being honest and open in a relationship difficult. I'd have to bite my tongue or lie to not offend him when he talked about religion and faith. I'd rather be single forever than date or marry with that kind of compromise.
Her: Well be prepared to be single forever. Men who don't believe in God or have any faith have nothing to make them honor you. You will be treated like everyone else because they won't see you as the gift and treasure that you are. Marrying a man of faith may not appeal to you right now, but I'm sure that if you look at all the marriages that work in our family, you'll see that the women are all treated as treasures. I could not imagine an atheist treating you the way [her husband] treats me. He loves me because he knows I was created for him. We didn't just happen to meet and fall in love, God planned for us to be together before we even met. I know that he has a husband for you too. Maybe it was [name of another of my exes]. He's a youth pastor, he's a good man, and talks about you all the time. You would make the perfect couple if you were not so stubbornly rebelling against God right now. It's like you want to play the martyr. "Oh poor K, she broke up with [...] and can't find a good atheist man to love her." Stop being ridiculous, we are not atheists, we are children of God. You are a part of us, you cannot change who you are.
Me: If this wasn't Skype and I didn't know you were serious I'd accuse you of trolling me. I know you read my blog and know what a troll is. We've only been separated for 3 months and officially over for a month. I've not even begun to try dating again. However, when I do rest assured that it will be with an "evil" atheist who will love me for me and not because some ancient sky fairy willed our union into existence. As for family marriages, have you forgotten the many, many divorces and re-marriages? I'm good with never getting married if it means I'll be spared from being loved as God willed it to be. LOL on thinking this is a form of rebellion. Believe when I say this, there is NOTHING that would make me relinquish the freedom I've earned from ridding myself of the shackles of religion. He could be the embodiment of everything I love and desire, physically and intellectually; but the second he declares his Christianity, it's a no go.
Her: I really can't believe you. Everyone thinks of you as strong and smart, but I'm really questioning your wisdom. You may be smart academically, but you are failing miserably in your life choices. I'm going to pray for you. You are better than settling for an atheist. You deserve a man of God.
She then ended the session. I know her well enough to know that she was probably really smug as she wrote that last reply. She also knows me well enough to know that my answer would not be civil after reading it. This is my family. This is why I live on the other end of the country. To be so blinded by your faith that you can't even imagine people who are non-Christians as capable of loving. This isn't even about atheists, she really believes that no other religions are as good as Christianity and judges them just as harshly as she does us. This is why I'm so good at arguments here; I grew up defending all sorts of things against a family filled with people like this. So all of you atheist and non-theists men out there, stop being decent human beings, clearly you're not expected to be. But for the family resemblance I'd be actively seeking my real relatives. Unfortunately, they are truly mine. *sigh* ~ Kim
... Excuse me while I go into despair now at how hopelessly blind and close-minded some people are. I'm really sorry that this is what it is with your family... makes me wonder what's going to happen when I come out in the open tomorrow about my atheism to my family.

Responding to the Most Common Arguments for God’s... →
religiousragings:
This is a guest post by Kathy Orlinsky. Kathy writes at The Stochastic Scientist blog.
…
I listen to a lot of theological discussions and debates. Often, someone will mention the name of a common argument for God’s existence… but I can never seem to remember which argument is which. Maybe you’re in the same boat.
Accordingly, I’ve prepared the following guide for...

Lunatic, liar, or Lord?
C. S. Lewis once challenged that when faced with the tale of Jesus Christ, we must come to the conclusion that he was either a lunatic, a liar, or he is Lord.
To this I now say, it’s not Christ whom I must confront; I conclude that the founders who wrote about him were the liars and lunatics about their Lord.

Why I have this blog
Just tried this on Facebook:
God - search results - friend activity - 20 posts since December 15th. Not one with fewer than 5 likes, one with if I recall correctly nearly 30 likes.
Atheism - search results - friend activity - No friend activity found. Ever.
Anyone else want to share their statistics on this?

I wrote this on December 24th, 2010 on Facebook
“I have been thinking this year what I want for Christmas. I have thought and thought and thought, and I have come to a scanty few ideas of gifts my family could give me this year. So… I asked the Lord to speak to me tonight, and I am amazed sometimes at how he speaks through his Word.

Double Standard?
Hey, so it was pointed out to me that one of my last messages may be sending a hypocritical message - a double standard. One standard for my family, another standard of behavior for everyone else. I’m going to try to clear this up now.
First of all, I’m going to “admit” that I’m human. Although I try to be logical, sometimes my emotions can get the best of me....

ATHIEST KID: Mom, I'm going to go fuck a hooker.
ATHIEST MOM: Okay, son.
The athiest kid leaves the room. The father comes home from work several minutes later.
ATHIEST DAD: Hey!
ATHIEST MOM: Hi, honey! I'm pregnant again. I guess I'll just get another abortion, since "fetuses don't count as human life."
ATHIEST DAD: Okay, get as many abortions as you want!
ATHIEST MOM: Oh, and don't go in the bedroom.
ATHIEST DAD: Why not?
ATHIEST MOM: There are two gay men fucking each other in there.
ATHIEST DAD: Why are they here?
ATHIEST MOM: I wanted to watch them do it for awhile. They just aren't finished yet.
ATHIEST DAD: Okay, that's fine with me!
Suddenly, their neighbor runs into the house.
ATHIEST NEIGHBOR: Come quick, there's a Christian outside!
ATHIEST MOM: We'll be right there!
The athiest couple quickly put on a pair of black robes and hoods. They then exit the house, and run into the street, where a Christian is nailed to a large, wooden X. He is being burned alive. A crowd of athiests stand around him, all wearing black robes and hoods.
RANDOM ATHIEST: Damn you, Christian! We hate you! We claim to be tolerant of all religions. But we really hate your's! That's because we athiests are hypocritical like that! Die, Christian!
THE END
Scary, isn't it?
REBLOGGING ATHEIST: Just imitating the morality of the Bible like you've wanted us to do all along! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PK7P7uZFf5o&feature=relmfu

God sent us a savior
“If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent us an educator. If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent us a scientist. If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist. If our greatest need had been pleasure, God would have sent us an entertainer. But our greatest need was forgiveness, so God sent us a Savior.”

I don't have enough faith to be an atheist
I am re-reading this book now from the vantage point of an agnostic atheist. The first time I read it, I was a Christian and its arguments brought comfort to me by providing what I thought to be an excellent argument for truth.
Right now, I am one paragraph into the Preface and have twice put the book down, stunned already at how the authors and writer of the forward cannot see the flipside of...

Oh, Bieber. I love how his mom is an authority on what fairytales do or don’t exist.
“My mom always told me there wasn’t a Santa,” Bieber says in a new interview with AOL Music. “This was her logic: She thought if I grew up knowing about Santa then finding out he wasn’t real, that it would be like she was lying to me. And then when she told me about God, I...

Mission: Take Twilight down!

Dear friends, beloved tumblr users… the time has come for us to prove, once and for all, that Twilight is not the biggest success of our generation. Whether you’re a Potterhead or a Tribute, it’s your moral obligation to do something about it, by voting in two MTV polls. We must not let Twilight win. Reblog it, spread the word, make your fandom proud.

Rest In Peace: Secular or not? →
religiousragings:
When it comes right down to it, this expression makes no sense no matter WHAT you believe. If you hold the Christian belief of death, you aren’t resting in Heaven, you are worshiping or banging out tunes on a harp or whatever. You certainly aren’t resting if you are in Hell, at least not unless…
Well, resting is culturally seen as a peaceful activity, one to be desired...

Rudder & Bit: Willful blindness →

When doubts arise, pride turns from God to self for reason and truth. Humility turns the self to God for the revelation of reason and truth.
Don’t fall into the trap of believing that non-believers do something particularly different than Christians do to discover their truth. What you must remember is that Christians do exactly what non-believers do, they just take it one step...
