Some of these are a bit of a reach, but most are right on target. ~ Steve
If someone believes what they are told, without looking for evidence to support the claim, and they simply believe despite this ignorance and potential lack of evidence, we call them gullible.
If someone believes what they are told about the divine, even after contradictory and/or unsettling evidence is presented to them, we say they have great faith.
Faith is not a virtue. It is an attribute deemed virtuous by religions as a tool to keep their flocks intact.

Amused
So, I had dinner in the cafeteria tonight with some other guys from the hall. (To those of you who don’t know or remember, I go to a very Christian, conservative, Republican, private school. I might be the only non-Christian here for all I know.)
So, I was very amused when one of the guys said with a nod and thoughtful look that Satan was actually not really that bad of a guy. He mentioned “How often in the Bible do you hear of Satan killing people or causing afflictions? I mean, obviously he’s the bad guy who caused all the problems in the first place and still screwed around with Job and all, but all in all he’s actually pretty chill.”
Yes, I was pretty amused.
The End of the World
The end will come within the lifetime of Jesus’s listeners.
“Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.” —Matthew16:28“But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here,…
Click the link. That is a lot of verses that should concern the professing Christian. Though, I remember as a Christian myself I pleasantly ignored and didn’t read these verses or really thought about them very much. Thank you internet for providing a place to put ideas together and provide even a sort of education on rational thinking…
Luke 14:26
26‘Whoever comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and even life itself, cannot be my disciple.’
(NRSV)
Well Jesus, you’re right. I can’t be your disciple, because I happen to really love and appreciate the life I have right now, the life that is in the first place extremely unlikely, the life that is privileged to be able to comprehend some of the deepest mysteries of the cosmos, the life that I am experiencing and contemplating about every day right now.
And I cannot and will not hate father or mother, wife or children, or brothers or sisters for the same reasons. They are and will be incredible people with incredible potential and value. I cannot and will not treat death as if it is some arbitrary mid-point on the way to eternity, because I see no evidence to believe that that eternity exists, and rather have every reason to believe that death is the end, the final point in time of my life.
I can’t believe sometimes the degree to which I have come to detest the very book that gave my life comfort and meaning not even 2 years ago..
